Acceptable Losses lets the officer risk injury for a leadership boost

Acceptable Losses puts a choice beside the officer’s paperwork: join a mission personally for a leadership boost, while risking injury. The official description makes that exposure part of commanding the squads, rather than treating the person assigning patrols and assaults as automatically out of harm’s way.
The boost is a stated reason to accompany the soldiers, not a promise to bring them all back. Squad deaths are permanent, and the description supplies no injury probability or numerical leadership effect. A specific mission cannot be declared safer just from knowing the officer can join it. You have a benefit and a risk to evaluate, with their actual sizes still to inspect.
HQ’s demands give that choice a larger context. Evaluations affect your standing; acceptable results may lead to an order to go Over the Top. Surviving the assault then brings a requirement to hold captured trenches until replacements arrive. Success is advertised as capable of creating another obligation, rather than simply ending the danger.
That is a particular reason to investigate this command game: you are deciding both what squads should attempt and whether to expose their officer alongside them. Look for how the mission information and subsequent reports explain that decision. The leadership boost matters most when you can understand what it changes, not when participation is assumed to be either automatically heroic or automatically wise.
Sources & context
The official description specifies leadership benefit and injury risk but not their amounts, probabilities or the consequences of officer injury. It does not establish that personal participation prevents squad deaths or changes any particular outcome.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
