Hero Realms builds the deck from a market both sides can see

Hero Realms begins deck construction inside the match. Its official description says each game starts with a basic deck, then uses Gold to acquire actions and champions from a shared center row. What you can buy is part of the situation both sides are playing through.
That changes the preparation question. You are not simply bringing a completed collection into the fight; you must decide which available additions fit the deck developing now. Their effects can supply more Gold or attack opponents and champions, connecting a purchase to later turns.
There is a complication outside that starting deck: heroes also level up with skills, abilities and equipment. The listing describes equal-level matchmaking and an optional challenge against higher-level opponents. “Basic deck” therefore does not mean every hero enters with identical abilities.
If you want the act of assembling a deck to be part of the contest, inspect the shared row and the character progression together. The immediate decision is which offered card earns a place in this game’s deck.
Sources & context
The official iOS description supports in-match deck building and persistent hero leveling. It does not provide the full market refill or card cycling rules. Persistent hero abilities mean a basic starting deck should not be mistaken for identical characters.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
