One player can move Quill while the other moves part of the world around her in Moss: The Forgotten Relic. Polyarc’s September 3 Play Together update assigns the mouse’s platforming, combat and exploration to one local controller. The other player becomes the Reader, moving obstacles, helping with environmental puzzles and protecting Quill.

The developer supplies a concrete origin for the division. An engineer’s two children first shared different buttons on one controller; he then split the inputs across two controllers. The younger child took the Reader role, described by Polyarc as more forgiving, while the older child handled Quill’s platforming and combat. That is the studio’s account of the experiment, not a universal claim about which role every child will prefer.

The roles make cooperation more particular than giving both players the same hero. Quill has to find a route through the scene; the Reader can affect the space that route crosses. The official site illustrates the relationship with an image captioned as Quill standing on a pillar moved by the player. No complete puzzle solution needs to be invented to explain why the two responsibilities can meet.

There is also an advertised option to skip combat. Its interaction with co-op was not tested here, so it should not become a promise about every fight or boss. It is another setting to inspect alongside deciding who holds which controller.

If a shared adventure appeals, choose roles by the actions each person wants to perform. One guides the small hero through the space; the other reaches into that space to help. The useful attraction is having different hands on the same problem.

The September 3, 2026 developer update describes the local co-op roles and their origin. Controller behavior, accessibility outcomes and combat-skip interaction with co-op were not tested. The original VR games are not assumed to share this edition’s controls.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
