Otterly Lost gives its rock a different job from a bigger jump

Otterly Lost gives Otto a particularly otter-like tool: a rock. The developer says it breaks obstacles and helps uncover further tools and treasures. That is a different promise from simply making the explorer faster.
Movement has its own progression. The advertised upgrades improve swimming, jumping, climbing and gliding, while the world includes kelp forests, caves, shores and rocky canyons. Those details establish several ways of moving and one concrete way of changing an obstruction. They do not establish an exact order in which routes open.
The distinction is useful when imagining a blocked path. Before treating every obstacle as a demand for a better jump, consider whether it is something a tool can alter. Conversely, carrying a rock is not a supported guarantee that every difficult crossing can be smashed into submission. A closer gameplay examination would need to show which obstacles communicate those differences clearly.
Otto’s search for home gives the travel a narrative direction, but the rock gives the invitation a physical detail. Look closer if you like exploration that asks what an obstacle is made for, as well as whether you can reach its other side.

Rock use and movement upgrades come from the official description. No obstacle layout, upgrade sequence or required backtracking route was independently established.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
