Solo Knight puts a skill on each piece of equipment, then lets runes modify how skills behave. Its iOS description gives concrete projectile examples: changing number, size or speed, adding penetration, or splitting projectiles on a hit.

Those examples make the build question more specific than “which weapon has the bigger number?” A projectile that passes through enemies and one that splits on contact describe different ways for an attack to occupy a fight. The listing establishes those possibilities without proving that every rune works on every skill.

Perk points add a separate limit: the developer asks you to plan a growth route with a finite supply. Equipment, skill modifications and perks therefore deserve to be considered together, without a supported reason to declare one advertised combination optimal.

If changing an attack’s behavior interests you more than merely replacing its weapon, examine the rune compatibility around the skill you want. The equipment chooses an action; the modifications concern how that action reaches the enemy.

Sources & context

The iOS listing gives categories of rune effects, not a named tested combination or damage formula. General equipment-swapping language is not treated as overriding mode-specific restrictions in other editions or later season rules.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
