Surf Sandbox lets you work on the break before taking a board into it. The official description gives you control over ocean-bottom contours as well as wave height, period and frequency. Selecting a place to surf is only one option; changing the place is another.

That makes the water an object of experimentation. A contour edit belongs to creating the wave you will attempt to ride, while the other parameters let you alter its stated settings. The source does not show a particular seabed profile and resulting wave, so a recipe for a reliable barrel would be invented. Its promise is an editor-to-riding relationship, not a verified hydrodynamic result.

Bodysurfing, bodyboarding, shortboards and longboards are among the advertised riding options. Those choices concern how you enter the wave; the bottom editor concerns the conditions you create first. A different board does not, from this material alone, explain what a contour change will do.

If you are attracted to experimenting rather than only completing a preset course, this is the part to investigate. Change something about the break, then examine what that change makes available to ride. Surf Sandbox offers a concrete reason to look beneath the surface before deciding what to do on it.

Sources & context

The official description supports an editable seabed and wave parameters, not a tested hydrodynamic model or particular contour-to-wave result. No claim is made about real-world surfing instruction, exact breaks or score rules.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
