A plant in Tiny Eden can be a source of something beyond its harvest. The developer’s Update 13 says every plant now has a unique gene extractable in the Genetics Lab. The same announcement says some genes can only be unlocked through story progress.

That qualification gives experimentation two kinds of access to consider. The garden begins in an apartment, with different plants needing suitable soil, light, temperature and care. Obtaining a plant and meeting a story requirement need not be the same task. A growing collection alone is not advertised as bypassing every genetic gate.

Update 13 also limits the accumulation of Genetic Points, without naming the limit in its announcement. The source supplies no worked gene combination, so a recommendation to hoard a particular amount or extract one plant first would be invented. The concrete discovery is the connection between cultivating specimens, progressing the story and opening genetic options.

The preceding Update 12 adds resetting plant perks in the laboratory and choosing among four perk cards instead of three from Gene Level 5. Those reported controls make a selected perk revisable rather than necessarily a permanent verdict on a plant.

If the gardening laboratory appeals, notice where the next option comes from. It may require tending another plant, revisiting a perk choice or continuing the story that makes a gene available. The apartment’s next useful expansion is not always another pot.

Sources & context

Update 13 describes the genetics overhaul; Update 12 describes perk resets and the Gene Level 5 card choice. No gene recipe, point cap value, optimal combination or reset cost is established.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
