Veterum treats the light on each battlefield cell as combat information

Veterum asks you to read the light on the battlefield, not just where the units stand. Its official description says the combat system accounts for the illumination of each cell. When fighting night creatures, the developer tells you to make fire and light the battlefield.
That puts illumination alongside facing and line of sight as information about a position. A coordinate alone is not the full description of the space a soldier occupies. The game advertises a way to intervene in that condition through fire, rather than leaving light entirely to the scene’s appearance.
The source does not identify a night creature’s exact vulnerability or the radius and effect of a fire. It would be unsupported to promise an accuracy bonus, guaranteed damage or a particular extension of vision. What matters here is the stated level of detail: light is tracked by cell and presented as something relevant to a fight.
Other environmental interventions include one-use scrolls before battle, with rain among the listed effects. That makes it worth examining when the game lets you change conditions as well as how it displays them. For a tactics player attracted to this approach, the first useful question is whether the interface explains what the current light changes. Seeing a dark square and understanding its combat consequence are separate steps.
Sources & context
The official description establishes cell-level illumination as a combat factor and explicitly recommends fire against night creatures. It supplies no particular creature, light-radius calculation or bonus formula. No guaranteed damage advantage or visibility extension is inferred.

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
