ORDER / ABSORB
Gurei
Gurei makes the boss you postpone part of the difficulty decision
PREVIEW · Official Steam listing and one selected player report · Not played · Sources checked Oct 9, 2026. Our method.

Leaving a difficult opponent for later is not advertised as a neutral decision in Gurei. The developer says the Kami can be fought in any order, with their strength determined by the chosen path. The same enemy can be a first fight on one route and the final boss on another.
Each victory changes Rei too. Defeated Kami grant new skills; the listing names a stronger dash, an execution weapon and healing as examples. That gives an early fight a potential benefit beyond removing one opponent. It adds a tool that could matter in subsequent fights, although the source does not assign those examples to named bosses.
The route decision therefore has two sides. Deferring a boss changes its position in the challenge, while choosing another first changes the abilities available before returning. The page supplies no scaling formula or demonstrated matchup, so neither defeating the easiest opponent first nor saving the hardest for last can be declared universally correct.
The route idea also depends on the feel of using those tools. A negative English report posted October 4, with 43 minutes at review, praises the ordering concept but describes a dash delay that made fights unpleasant. That is one early player’s perception, not a measured latency or a current-build test. It qualifies the invitation to precise combat without settling every later fight.
Defeated Kami also accompany Rei with their personalities and commentary, making victory part of the ongoing cast as well as the combat kit. The useful question remains the route: what power do you want to carry into the next fight, and which opponent are you choosing to leave on the other side of it?

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
