THE EVIDENCE SO FAR

Equipment shapes the dice you will roll. The useful question is how clearly the game connects a gear choice to future options.

In Sigilfarer, equipment changes your dice faces. Picking a shield also means choosing what you might roll later. On paper, that's an interesting job for an inventory screen: building your future decisions.

The game

The official listing describes gear that changes dice faces, shaping attacks, defenses and abilities. Sigilfarer combines that system with a party of wanderers and expeditions through changing regions. The crucial distinction is that equipment helps determine which actions may become available later; it is not described merely as a collection of stat increases.

What players report

We have not sampled individual Steam comments for this report, so we are not claiming a community consensus about how this mechanic feels in practice. The game file displays dated Steam statistics separately. Those counts can help describe audience response, but they do not explain the reasons behind it.

Our analysis

Picking a shield can be a decision about future probability as well as present protection. In our reading, the inventory screen becomes a place to prepare the kinds of answers a later turn might offer. A reliable option could be useful without being spectacular; an impressive face could matter less if the rest of the party cannot support it. Those are design possibilities, not measured findings about the balance.

This creates a useful lens for evaluating the game: can you connect a bad roll to the preparation that preceded it? If the relationship is legible, changing equipment could feel like revising a plan. If it is obscure, a clever system may still feel arbitrary. The shield has joined the planning department; we have not yet audited its work.

What remains untested

We have not tested the distribution of results, how equipment effects combine, or the amount of control a party actually has over an unlucky turn. A future review should compare two loadouts through real encounters, documenting the choices each makes possible. The listing supports an interesting preparation system, but not a claim that every equipment option is equally useful.

Sources & context

One mechanic, the decision it creates, and a little dry humor.
